Excellent artwork and direct, friendly prose style that imparts a great deal of information are the hallmarks of both these natural history books. Few children will fail to look more sympathetically at the frog for instance, having read Margaret Lane's account of its life style and the increasing threat to its habitat. If only more information books for the younger age group were of his standard.
