Gregory's Garden
Gregory's Dog
Children in the very early stages of learning to read are the audience Stobbs presumably had in mind for these two 16-page picture books. Their central character is a small boy, Gregory. His efforts at dog training meet with no success until the final command 'EAT', but his attempt at gardening does finally bear fruit. The quality of the illustrations, both in form and colour, make them for superior to most traditional readers even though the text - one or two lines of large print per page - is unexceptional.
