The Vanishment of Thomas Tull
Shades of The Shrinking of Treehorn in this early vintage Ahlberg about an incredible shrinking boy. There's the witty and wordy fun we expect from the writer and the artist's episodic, complementary pictures are as inventive as ever. Their special talent is for picture book stories for younger children, I think: and this doesn't have the magic of some of their other work. There's a feeling of a good idea being stretched. But even below their very best they're better than most so I'll find a place for this in bookshops and libraries for sevens to nines.
