A hugely satisfying, easy-to-read story of a bear's friendship for the moon and his desire to give him a birthday present. The conversations which take place in the mountains are brilliantly constructed so that bear's echoed words provide moon's wholly apt responses; and the sequence of illustrations wherein the moon finds and wears his birthday hat in the branches of a tree are, to echo bear's words, 'just right'. Altogether simply perfect.
