I know of few writers who can enter into children's imaginative lives so well. Here, the hero longs for a dog. What could be an echoing of Pearce's A Dog So Small is made fresh and vital by the writer's way of telling. Conversations between children are beautifully caught; the boy's friends and family are presented to us through his eyes. I'm always reading the same author's A Box For Benny to nines to elevens. I'll now share this one too. A stimulating cover, and cleverly-integrated pictures.
