When mum suggests going shopping for some new clothes Alex doesn't want to go; he hates shopping and anyway he likes his old clothes just fine. However, a bike ride and the promise of a cake are sufficient inducement. But the trip looks like ending in nothing but frayed tempers and failure until Alex spots the perfect 'new' outfit. An everyday situation accurately and wryly observed both in the telling and in the humorous illustrations.
