Sheepchase

A game of hide-and-seek with Flossie the sheep hiding, and shepherd boy Jack, the farmer, and the reader seeking her as she leaves the meadow and heads for the fair. The story is better told in Celia Berridge's finely executed watercolours which evoke the spirit of nineteenth-century England than in the rhyming text which is clumsy and too heavy-handed in its interrogation of the reader.
