Bad Boris and the New Kitten
A familiar theme for this one of the long-time pet who feels displaced and jealous when a new, cute pet arrives. Originality is provided by the fact that the jealous one is a baby elephant and by the nice little twist in the end which leaves the question of a happy ending interestingly open.
The pictures, especially of the elephant, are full of character and reflect the text well. There is real humour in Boris' attempts to get back into favour and the whole book bounces along very well. Not a great book but liked by the children and a popular choice for nearly independent readers:
