Nancy is about the same age as Billy in Owl and Billy (see Nursery/Infant); but she's a much more lively character and her adventures are told in such a way that solo readers as young listeners will enjoy her activities - getting lost on a train for instance. It is interesting to compare the manner of telling and characterisation in these two books. Fancy Nancy emerges a real spirited miss whereas Billy seems to lack the depth of character needed to bring him to life.
