Before term began these books had to be wrested out of my four-year-old next door neighbour's tightly clenched fists and, since then, have scarcely touched the shelves, being passed from hand to hand throughout the Infants!

The series depicts the changes that occur during the day in exactly the same part of each of the stock locations. The build-up and gradual easing of the activity with the reassuring return to the familiar characters of the early morning, the gentle humour as well as the slapstick and, above all, Philippe Dupasquier's acute eye for the absurd all contribute to the charm of these books. The changes that occur within the carefully constructed illustrations give so much scope for re-examination and promote so many exciting possibilities for discussion that my children have concocted fascinating scenarios around often apparently minor characters and incidents. These books are a must for any Infant classroom and would make a great gift for any four to six-year-old.
