The ambitiousness of Adele Geras' plots is admirable. Mel(usine) in the isolation of her room with a broken ankle recalls the events of the past weeks where she has taken part in a youth theatre production of Chekhov's Three Sisters. The dramas of relationship which go on around the dramas of production and the play itself are the focus, standard behind the scenes stuff but handled with care and the author's gentle understanding of people.
