Detailed and quite dense historical fantasy, with the orphaned, 18-year-old Kay moving from present-day Canada to the mythic, Celtic past of Ireland - playing a major role in the recovery of four lost treasures and in the process helping what turn out to be her parents before her birth. The book is written with such assurance, despite the complexity of names, the simplicity of action and some implausibility, that it feels impolite to resist.
