Potentially a sentimental story but this one works and it's written well too. Toby (a girl) and her younger sister have first to face the mental breakdown of their mother grieving for dead husband/father and then the trauma of moving to foster parents. There's some nice play with words (foster parents must be called Foster? 'unstable' carries the idea of wild horses) which is all part of a sensitivity to emotions and language which make for a moving story. A little more expensive than the norm but well worth having in libraries and book boxes.
