5-8 Infant/Junior
I have very mixed feeling about this book. Mary O'Toole has retold an old Scottish tale about a lonely old lady who longs for a visitor. One cold, dark night there is a knock at the door and two skeleton feet walk in and settle in front of the comfortable armchair. Gradually the rest of the skeleton appears and, as the old lady questions each part of the body, we build up with rollicking repetition until finally and awfully the skull roars that it came to get her. A lot of the Infants took it in their stride but a number were very disturbed by it. It might be better as a picture book for younger Juniors and could be very successful with slow readers at this stage.
