Set in India and with their basis in traditional tales, these four stories centre on young Chintu and Vivek the elephant, his clever friend. Their adventures provide an entertaining and thought-provoking read for young juniors, as well as a good read-aloud for any group of children over about six. With still comparatively few books written about Indian characters, it is a great pity that the cover illustration depicts a boy of anything but Asian appearance, in stark contrast to Jeroo Roy's illustrations throughout the book.
