Geoffrey Stratfield Farmer is an eccentric, snobbish know-it-all, who plays up to his many detractors in his efforts to cope with his blatant inadequacies. When Kim McConnell takes a hand in his life, she unbalances him even more, this time for the better, so that realism replaces false bravado and shallow rhetoric. This is a book to promote furtiveness amongst your classes and could enrage certain parents, so read it before recommending it. I must admit, I relished the humour and cynical wit and was sorry when old Geoff lost it towards the end.
