The usual, stylish magic mixture from this acclaimed fantasy writer. Fast-moving and demanding much of its readers, this is the tale of the childhood of Chrestomanci, written to precede A Charmed Life. It is full of complex and very intriguing ideas which should appeal to any reader. who likes to have his imagination tickled. Magic cats, boys with nine lives, treachery in other worlds and wicked wizard uncles smuggling magic contraband, plus a dotty, social-climbing mother and a child goddess, all serve to make this a long satisfying read.
