Ghost's Hour, Spook's Hour

Here, in a first-person telling, a young boy wakened at midnight by the wind explores the at first unfamiliar sights and sounds of the dark in his own house and tries to reassure himself through explaining them to his pet dog, Biff. before long though, imagination overcomes rationality and it's a huge relief when Dad appears. Pictures and text combine to evoke a wholly convincing spooky atmosphere. Listeners of around six and slightly older readers should find their hearts beating faster before the end of the story.
