Matthew becomes a father at 17, but his girlfriend, Lorene, wants to sign the child away for adoption - she wants a life without responsibilities. Matthew takes his newborn son, Luke, from the hospital and flees to his grandmother's. The story of his struggle to keep Luke is occasionally short on realism and has a degree of extraneous drama to hold the reader's attention. However, this is a pacy read from an unsual standpoint - allowing adolescent boys to see that it's acceptable to have emotions!
