The Great Zoo Escape

5-8 Infant/Junior, Under 5s Pre-School/Nursery/Infant
This is a reissue of one of Colin McNaughton's early picture books. It relates how a storytelling bird, Ruffles, is captured, taken from his island home, put in a zoo and finally escapes, thanks to the seagull telegraph system and three brave friends from the island. The story, which comes down firmly on the side of free animals, raises the whole question of the pros and cons of zoos.
