The Three Bears Lend a Hand
Illustrated by Helen Cooper
Brilliant. A story within a story. In order to cheer up their children, three bears set off on an adventure. The really clever device is that they decide to write an account of it. We share their discussion, their arguments about what to include, what will make it interesting or funny, and we look at events from different viewpoints. We, as onlookers, can understand why they make mistakes. It's tailor-made for any infant teacher to use as an example and at the end of it the children could even make their own version of the bears' book.
