Any teacher who behaves like Mrs Macintosh deserves the chaos which ensues on the afternoon of the class end-of-term party. The problems she creates for herself will, however, amuse apprentice readers of about the same age as those in the story (sevenish), especially her soaking in the school pond and her confrontation with the headteacher.
