I laughed out loud on several occasions while reading this book. Jan Mark has undoubtedly mastered the polished one-liner. The trouble is that the whole book is imbued with the same high gloss and the social comment - racial discrimination - emerges as a carefully veneered package. However, this short, snappy story about Lloyd's enforced removal to a town far away from familiar places and childhood friends, and his eventual absorption into his new life, will entertain more literate males in the 3rd and 4th years.
