Now Conan Doyle's been dead fifty years, The Lost World is no longer copyright and is probably a reasonable bet for steady back-list sales --- after all, everybody knows the title from film clips on telly and you can put a dinosaur on the cover. However, it won't endear Puffin to the anti-sexist, anti-racist, anti-imperialist lobby. The expedition is slow to get under way and, although Prof. Challenger is extravagantly amusing early on (later, he is caricatured into a buffoon), only very competent readers will cope with the 1912 vocabulary and style. You might try one copy for earnest traditionalists.
