A Cool Kid Like Me
This is an extremely disturbing book - for the parent. The children in my class seemed to take it at face value and it was widely borrowed. the general consensus was that they found it reassuring that even a 'cool kid' shared their concerns. The cool kid is popular, knows he has talents and apparently takes most things in his stride. His parents are blithely unaware of his innermost worries and fears and only his grandmother truly relates to him. The book pulls no punches and depicts a particular set of family relationships with devastating honesty that left this parent feeling very distressed!
