This political thriller is set in 1999 in London, now a satellite of the United States, with democracy an outdated concept. Jeremiah Talent, son of the US Ambassador, is seen by militant campaigners as a target. Some readers may be put off by the cryptic style and the abrupt changes of scene and viewpoint in the opening pages, but those who persevere will be hooked by the excitement of the plot.
