Quite a lesson in literacy in its broadest sense, this book. Similar in concept to the now well-established 'Jets' series, with complete integration of text and pictures, this amusing little book comprises three short stories about Lucy Goose and her animal friends. It's packed with wordplay in various forms, and numerous examples of different uses of reading and writing, including the annoying 'junk-mail', legal contracts, signs, posters, several kinds of letters and a telephone directory, are an integral part of the action. The inviting design might at first suggest this is a book aimed at newly independent readers, but its potential is much wider and indeed the nature of its humour demands some degree of sophistication so that even adults will find much to chuckle over.
