Cover Story
The illustration on the front of BfK this month is the cover of Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass with illustrations by Sir John Tenniel. The book is published by Macmillan (0 333 29037 2) at £9.99, and we're grateful for their help in using this picture of Alice and the White Knight.
Mightier Than the Sword
Wheelchair-bound Adam is encouraged by a series of coincidences (like being given a pen called Excalibur by a 'magician' of a teacher whose name is an anagram of Merlin) to see himself as a latter-day King Arthur, and gathers a group of primary school friends to play the other legendary roles. Looking for a worthy cause to champion, the group campaigns against a proposed development plan which threatens the village pond and find their villain is a Dr D More (Mordred). The cleverly worked-out plot and readable style will charm readers of eight and over.
