Anne Harvey's anthology juxtaposes the quirky with the serious, the traditional with the contemporary, the well-known with the less familiar. The resulting mixture will appeal to a wide age-range; it's a fruitful teaching resource, but also a book for children or adults to enjoy browsing in. There's a refreshing absence of the saccharin doggerel which often fills space in children's anthologies, and most readers will find new delights alongside old favourites.
