8-10 Junior/Middle
Tina Brown leaves Dublin with her mother and a group of craftswomen to spend the summer on a remote island in the west of Ireland. Left to her own devices, she meets an elderly woman, Mrs Flynn, who relates tales of island life through the century. The potential interest and charm of the setting fail to compensate for flat characterisation and a shapeless main plot, to which the old lady's disconnected and inconsequential stories add little but padding.
