Here's a multi-cultural gathering of shades! - a Madras tamarind tree devil, a Polish gnome, a Chinese river spirit and a Trinidadian ball of shape-changing light - all befriended by Miss Pennyworth, an ancient fairy who lives in a castle of dreams and cobwebs that isn't always there. Confused? Such is the nature of this idiosyncratic tale of the everyday life of London (and Madras) shady folk, full of good-humoured wisdom and event. It might make a storytime reader.
