Cover Story

The clear, strong illustrations match the spare, deceptively simple text to present powerful images that take time to percolate but build to provoke discussion, challenging children to make the leap into dialogue with the author. A child in my class described the book as 'having a special kind of rightness because it didn't tell you what to think but made you think it'. This author/illustrator team seem able to encapsulate the power of the fable in a form to which we can all relate. They give no easy answers but just provoke powerful food for thought.
