Crocodile Beat
Illustrated by Patricia Mullins
A really satisfying book that I know I'll read again and again. The mean and hungry crocodile is waiting to catch his meal - Gail Jorgensen's rhyming text builds to a climax as the animals come to the water hole to drink, but the King of Beasts sorts him out! The rhyme form gives it power and an African heartbeat, while Patricia Mullins' collage illustrations make one itch to feel a texture. Congratulations to Red Fox for the generous size and sumptuous quality of its production.
