Rosa's Singing Grandfather
Four simple sketches from the life of a young girl, her overworked mum and her marvellously realised singing grandfather. We visit grandma's grave with this family, hear stories from grandad's childhood, including one that teaches Rosa hw to defy the darkness, then follow them to the hospital when grandad falls, ill. The relationships between the characters are depicted with warmth and accuracy. The clarity and optimism of this book should make it very welcoming to new independent readers.
