The kaleidoscope of life in the Caribbean is vividly created in this superb collection of some 30 poems written from a child's point of view. Topics include listening to jumbie (ghost) stories, family relationships and the flora and fauna of the islands. It's good to see this book available in paperback at last, albeit it without the colour illustrations of the hardback, but Grace Nichols' words are more than sufficient to paint colours in the imagination.
