Irish politics of 1920, not so very different from today, played out as the English-educated Catherine returns to Ireland and is attracted by the shell-shocked English soldier, Martin, and her childhood Irish friend, Conor. Teenage readers will anticipate a great deal about the style of this-particularly from the cover design and promotional blurb. Through the formulas of the blockbuster saga and its relationships, they will be deftly introduced to some of the realities of English/Irish relationships past and present.
