The 'it' of the title refers to the book within this book, a battery chicken's account of its release from a crameped death cell by visiting aliens, who then convert the poultry factory into forcing sheds for human meat. The chicken manages to forgive its erstwhile captors and travels to the alien planet in order to wage a media campaign against cruelty in farming. The message of this book is carried quite nimbly in the discussion of the boy and girl who read the chicken's testament, and the story itself has some good jokes and sideswipes at media idiocy.
