This is a moralistic story, but like the best preachers it never lectures its readers. Caroline Mitchell, aged 10, is murdered: last seen talking to strangers. Maggie Kennedy, from the secure base of a loving family, is curious to discover who killed Caroline. There are some shocking twists to the plot but the book never relies on histrionics, rather on contrast and comparison. We see, after all, only what is wrong when it's set against what is right. Highly recommended reading for Year 7 and beyond.
