Sam, the baker's son, longed to win the bags of gold on offer from the mayor and the king to anyone who could rid them of the terrible beast that was gobbling up men, women and children alike. Instead it seems he will become the beast's next meal when he gets caught as he delivers pink-iced cakes. But Sam's promise to make the monster all the cakes he can eat saves him and, thousands of pink-iced cakes later, turns the creature into a toothless wonder and Sam into a very rich boy. Foreman's larger than life and fearsome beast is enough to send shivers down the spine of the bravest reader.
