Once again Ruth Thomas follows a group of city kids; the trio here are nosing through a camper van until they discover stolen jewels, are kidnapped and then dumped in Devon. The story is always thrilling, but what grips is the complexity of the children: irrepressible Jack, asthmatic Charlie determined to be brave, and Leah continually wanting to do what she knows is right but always giving in to the others.
