Mathew and Mathilda are threatened with separation when their parents split up. They run away intending to stay with an uncle but end up having to live in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. This is a story of murders (I was convinced the twins would not survive) but it's also about the characters who live in the Park, people who've been demonised but who turn out to be sad human beings. An exciting story, with clever use of a prologue and pages of newspaper headlines.
