As historical tales go, this is more human interest than high adventure. Set in 1663 with a background of real events (King Charles' progress to Edinburgh for his Scottish coronation), the central character is a London boy player who wishes to visit his relatives in Leith. There he encounters the lovely Barbary whose knowledge of the mysterious ways of the wise women lands them both in deep trouble. Plenty happens and there's much to learn from this well-crafted yarn from a well-respected author.
