The school in Crack Willow Wood has some very familiar characters in it. There are, among others, the lad who's always playing the fool, the hardworking and quiet little girl, the ordinary little boy who wants to be liked and the worrier. The difference is that these are all animal characters in five stories about their school in the wood. Younger juniors will enjoy hearing or reading about their alter-egos and recognising many of the situations and happenings from their own school life. Well-written and well-paced, this book will be welcome in any class of seven- to nine-year-olds.
