In the guise of a conventional American high school love story, this is a moving account of the growing relationship between a teenage girl and her grandfather during the last months of his life. Rachel comes, almost accidentally, to accompany him regularly on the daily walk he insists on continuing despite a fatal lung disease. Rachel is able to get closer to him without any loss of his dogged and often wilful character and the final scenes remain powerfully honest.
