Thor is Locked in My Garage

Author: Robert J Harris

The second in a series featuring the brothers Lewis and Greg and set in the beautiful Scottish town of St Andrews.  The brothers first appeared when the Norse god Loki tried to take over the world and this time they have to stop him taking over Asgard , the home of the gods, and destroying their power. The action starts when they find a person locked in their garage and he turns out to be the god Thor.  They then have to work together to foil the dastardly Loki.  This is full of action and lots of humour and it moves along at a fast pace and is really great for the intended audience.

This is yet another story from the ‘Kelpies’ stable and they have, as always, done well.  I don’t think I have disliked any of their titles so far.  This is very much a Scottish imprint which showcases some of the great talent to be found north of the border and all the books have a Scottish setting.  The author has written a range of adventure stories for boys and this definitely follows in their footsteps.  The pace is fast and furious and the boys are delightfully infuriating at times.  This mix of reality and fantasy works really well and it is good to see some writing about the Norse gods rather than the Greeks, Romans and Egyptians.   It has been recognised for many years that humour can be very useful in encouraging reluctant readers and this series  will definitely find its place in the list that librarians and teachers know they can trust to appeal to their less enthusiastic readers.  I look forward to seeing more adventures for Lewis and Greg as they continue to save the world from Loki.
