Too Many Hats

Author: Hilda Offen

What young child does not want a pet? And what young child has not sometimes had a go at their parents to let them have one? Princess Paloma is no exception to this, except that her requests are done in style. Screaming style. But rules are rules: ‘no pets in the palace’, so she has to put up with things. Until a cat steps in, that is. Cats are no respecters of human rules, as Offen subtly reminds us in the text, and from this point on, neither is Princess Paloma… Do things go smoothly from now on? Well, let’s just say that it is the cat who is in control of the rest of the story… Offen’s sense of humour, combined with her acute powers of observation relating to children lead to an amusing read, with all turning out happily in the end. Worth getting.
