Philippa Fisher and the Stone Fairy's Promise

Author: Liz KesslerIllustrator: Katie May

Philippa Fisher has a fairy godsister, Daisy (‘like a fairy godmother but the same age as you’), who works Above the Clouds in the fairy headquarters, keeping an eye on what is going on down below. A stone circle on the moors provides a portal into the fairy world for Philippa so that she and Daisy can have a series of madcap adventures while trying to solve the mystery of a boy who has disappeared from the real world.

Different typefaces for each characters as she tells the next part of the story from her own point of view is a good idea, though I found some of the fonts too similar and had to keep checking whose chapter it was. The plot is a mite complicated too, but appealing to fairy-adventurers – no slouches these fairies, dedicated as they are to helping people, and more, to helping them help themselves.

Good fun, told in an attractively light way, this is third in a new series by the author of the popular ‘Emily Windsnap’ series; great for newly launched readers.
