Awards Round Up
The CILIP Carnegie Medal and CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal were awarded on 23 June to Kevin Brooks and Jon Klassen respectively.
The Booktrust Best Book Awards with Amazon Kindle were presented on 2 July. A total of six awards were given including one for Best Tech.
The UKLA Book Awards were presented on 4 July
The Branford Boase Award was won by C.J. Flood and editor Venetia Gosling for Infinite Sky on 10 July.
James Dawson become the first male author to win the Queen of Teen Award, presented on 11 July.
Tony Mitton won the CLPE Poetry Award for Wayland, The Tale of the Smith from the Far North on 17 July. Bookside Down by Joanne Limburg was highly commended.
Michael Rosen Record Breaker
Congratulations to Michael Rosen who now has a Guinness World Record™ to add to his other awards. Walker Books and the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) celebrated the 25 anniversary of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by holding the world’s Largest Reading Lesson. 1,500 children took part live at Charter Hall in Colchester, Essex, 30,000 more joined in from across the UK as the event was also live-streamed into schools. Every child involved in the events countrywide donated £1 to Read for RNIB Day.
