Bella Donna Cat Magic
Illustrator: Marion LindsayWarm and likeable witchling Bella Donna is back in the fourth title in the ‘Bella Donna’ series. Bella’s beloved cat, Pegatha, starts behaving strangely and then goes missing after a surprise visit to school. Bella believes the cat has been terrified by the talk of mummified cats in her Egyptian history class. Bella and her friends hunt high and low, trying magical and non-magical ways to track Pegatha down but even though all the other witches get on their broomsticks to help, the cat is nowhere to be seen. However, a satisfying resolution brings Bella greater joy than expected. Bella’s relationship with her adoptive mother and the communities to which she belongs, both at school and on Coven Road are warmly portrayed. With its smooth narrative and well drawn characters, from the cats to the witches, this is a non-sinister witchy book for little girls and boys where magic is fun and being a trainee witch is not always easy. A pleasing read for confident readers of 6+, with Marion Lindsay’s witty black and white illustrations supporting the text.
