Elmer's Special Day

Elmer’s Day – that annual event when all the elephants decorate themselves – is fast approaching. But their exuberant preparations disturb the peace of the other animals. ‘Time for a change,’ thinks Elmer and he issues an invitation to all the animals: decorate yourselves and join us in the celebratory parade.

When the great day finally dawns, the elephants eagerly await the arrival of the others. And, there’s a surprise in store. The other animals arrive, not only dazzlingly decorated but sporting elephant masks and thus a new, all-inclusive version of Elmer’s Day is inaugurated.

McKee, like the animals, has clearly had fun with his art: there is much to amuse in his playful scenes, particularly those of the preparations and parade. Elmer fans will not be disappointed by his latest jungle frolics. The publication of this book also celebrates the 20th anniversary of Elmer’s first appearance.
